I wasn't procrastinating . . . I just ran out of soda

I don't know about you guys, but when I am sitting down to write a paper, or anything that will be longer than a page, I really love to have a soda or something else to drink.  It isn't even the caffeine, although Dr Pepper is my drink of choice.  Right now I'm taking a break from writing, but I have an open Shasta Black Cherry soda can on my desk.  It's almost to the point that after so many minutes of writing I have to get up and get a soda or stop.  Maybe I just do it to break the monotony.

How about you guys? Do you have any strange writing habits?

  1. Sometimes I feel like my writing is word vomit. I just write and write and rewrite until I have nothing left to say. When I am going back through I sometimes wonder why I was trying to say or what the point of that comment was.

  2. That sounds unpleasant, and I know exactly what you mean. I think that is why I like to break up the routine. When I feel I am really forcing it, I pause and take a drink. Keeps the sanity that way.

  3. Haha, I loved this post! My roommates would make fun of me every time I sat down to write. They would say they could tell every time I had a paper due because the kitchen table would become mine! I spread like pangaea with my computer, papers, books, lots and lots of diet coke cans and of course--sunflower seeds! :)

  4. Carlie, that is exactly what I do. My computer desk is covered in books and notebooks and often empty soda cups. Good thinking just needs its own space I guess
